Internationally Recognized Writer and Speaker on Library and Information Technology Issues
Roy Tennant has presented at conferences worldwide about emerging library and information technologies. He is the owner of the Web4Lib and XML4Lib electronic discussions, and the creator and editor of Current Cites, a current awareness newsletter published every month since 1990. Tennant penned a regular column about digital libraries from 1997–2007 in Library Journal where he now writes the Tennant:Digital Libraries blog. A prolific writer, he has published numerous articles and books including his most recent Technology in Libraries (2008). Other works include Managing the Digital Library (2004), XML in Libraries (2002), Practical HTML: A Self-Paced Tutorial (1996), and Crossing the Internet Threshold: An Instructional Handbook (1993). Currently, he is Senior Program Officer at RLG Programs, part of the Programs and Research division of OCLC, in Mountain View, CA.
There will be tours of three Philadelphia libraries on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM.
University of Pennsylvania Biddle Law Library
Located in Nicole E. Tanenbaum Hall overlooking the Penn Law courtyard, the Biddle Law Library is a modern complex with expansive areas encompassing rooms for student study groups, computer labs and wireless network connections for research, and places for quiet study. Drexel University Hagerty Library
Drexel's W.W. Hagerty Library opened in 1983 and presently houses nearly half a million books, periodicals, DVDs, videos, and archival materials. The collection's strengths reflect the curricular strengths of the University City Campus: engineering, business, information science, and design and media arts, as well as general science, humanities and social sciences. Hear about the library's use of Web 2.0 applications such as RSS feeds, Facebook, del.icio.us, diigo, and friendfeed to communicate new information to faculty and students. Visit one of the country's most extensive collections - more than 6 million items, ranging from books and magazines to art, music, film, and other media. You will also tour the Free Library's Rare Books Department where you can take a pleasant plunge into 4,000 years of history.
